Oh my gosh, you’ve more courage than I have! (Is he poisonous then?) Sounds like you need to build a brick castle for the chickens, with a moat around it to keep him out. 😰 Let me know how things turn out! (I think you have story potential in this drama. The first sentence of your latest comment sounds like the perfect beginning of a poem. Seriously!) 🐍
Contrary we are indeed! I have a hard time killing a fly and felt bad for the ants we had to get rid of in our house. And i don’t eat red meat (feel sorry for the pigs and cattle). BUT, i do eat fish. And occasionally turkey and chicken. So am feeling hypocritical. It’s a quandary. About the black snake (eeeeeeeeeek ! ) could he possibly be relocated to another area? Too bad snakes are able to slip through tight places and grab the eggs. Does he come at night? Maybe you could discuss a compromise with him. 😄🤣😆 I do hope you’ll be able to find a way to get to the eggs before he does every day. 😳
He comes daily and coils up in the nesting boxes. We’ve been racing for eggs with some success as he’s right there when they’re laid . . . early ‘bird’ getting the ‘worms’ kind of thing happening. We’ve been trying to pull him out with a pole and get him in a big cooler to relocate but he flies out hissing and striking intimidatingly and quickly gets through the chicken wire and goes off into the brush . . . then comes back later. The egg race continues!
Heehee 😀 We have a big black snake in our chicken run eating up the eggs; I’m grappling with the realization that for us to have eggs that snake is going to have to die, by one of our hands, and it’s driving me nuts to deliver death to a creature that’s feeding itself and doing no harm to anyone; yet we want eggs and it simply won’t go away! We poke and prod at it to make it uncomfortable, tell it it’s dangerous for it to eat here, but it goes away and comes back . . . . and I’m back to knowing that either snake eats eggs all summer and lives while we go without, or snake has to die and while it doesn’t feel ‘wrong’ it bothers me enough that well, it’s still feasting . . . yet I have no difficulty killing mice even though all they do is scurry about the house, also doing no harm to anyone, not even eating any food out of the mouths of my babes!?! Wondrously contrarily bizzarre we humans are 🙃
One of three, by the time the third showed face from between the rocks I’d put away the camera, so just watched it muscle over the river bed till it got to a sunny spot where it coiled up and did what snakes do sunning themselves surrounded by water . . . .
